The Supremacy of Christ

Colossians 1:17 - 18, NIV

"He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. ... He is the beginning and the first born from among the dead, so that in everything He might have the supremacy.

Some time ago we received a flyer in the mail headed " Paid advertisement." It headlined: "At least 513 eyewitnesses. A high level government cover up to hide the truth. Convincing documentation. And last, but most compelling, an empty tomb. Makes you wonder how anyone could not believe!"

These headlines caught my imagination, so I read on: "More than easter bunnies and colored eggs, Easter is said to be the celebration of two historical events, the death and the resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth. We believe Jesus died and rose again to enable us to have a restored relationship with God. Because of His resurrection He offers forgiveness, peace with God, and eternal life to those who accept this freely offered gift.

"If the resurrection of Jesus was a hoax, myth, or a hallucination faith in Christ would be worthless and, as Paul said, all the people would be most pitied. However, the resurrection of Jesus has been well documented historically and provide strong reasons for each of us to consider the truth of His claims for our lives."

Next to this declaration appear the names of many professionals - professors, scientists, engineers, secretaries, and others who affirm: "We believe He is risen."

Paul also believed all this and more. In fact, the majesty of the Resurrection is Paul's next point in His declaration of the supremacy of Christ in Colossians 1:15 - 20.

3. "He is the beginning and the first born from among the dead, so that in everything He might have the supremacy."

4. "He is before all things." Jesus is the I Am who has existed as God from eternity. (John 5:28)

5. "And in Him all things hold together." Christ is the glue that holds the universe together.

Note: This teaching is so deep and good for our understanding to do with who Jesus really is. We encourage you study the verses and pray for holy spirit's guidance.
